Nine of the most outstanding ’industrial novels’ of the 19th and 20th centuries are presented here with a predominantly literary and thematic approach. Each chapter includes an introduction to the author, a synopsis and critical comments on the novel, as well as detailed footnotes to aid comprehension.  The extensive activities aim at providing a deeper understanding of the text and encouraging language improvement.
