Laura Moreton has adored James Lovatt since she first clapped eyes on him. Now, in her mid-twenties, her adolescent dreams could be coming true. James s ex-girlfriend, Cressy – who jilted him for an Italian count – has invited him to a house party in Derbyshire. To avoid the attention of Cressy s jealous husband, James begs Laura to masquerade as his latest girlfriend. What could be simpler? It ll only be for a few days and good old Laura won t cause a scene.
